My family is considering adding wallpaper to a few rooms in our home, so today I thought it would be fun to take a look at a few visual references of wallpaper inspiration!
You see, I’ve always been a part of the “painting school of thought.” Picking out paint colors and getting all of my friends together for a painting party has always been my cup of tea! It’s only recently that I’ve decided to expand my horizons to the wonderful world of wallpaper.
I blogged about adding graphic prints to the home back in April, and told you that a few of my favorite patterns were (and still are!) florals, houndstooth and damask. Back in this blog entry, I included several photos of really cool wallpapered rooms, and now I am looking back at this blog as further inspiration for my wallpaper dreams.
I’m still obsessed with this romantic floral wallpaper and this divine damask bedroom.

However, now I’m getting more focused and realizing that wallpapering your living space takes a lot of focus. It’s really easy for your wallpaper to overwhelm, and that’s the complete opposite of what it should do!
Exhibit A: this space.
From the cutout wall art to the mirror to the chandelier to the chairs to the duvet, this room is on damask OVERLOAD! I love the wallpaper, and actually like most of the other things in this room as well, just not all together.
Remember, you still want the room to feel like you! :)
In my opinion, wallpaper should perfectly complement the vibe of the room.
I love how the deep berry shade of this paper adds a whimsical touch to this living room!
By only adding wallpaper to the wall behind the sink, as opposed to the entire room, this bathroom becomes modern and chic.
Metallic wallpaper is so modern, and totally transforms this floral print into something magical!
Another example I love is this sitting area. While the wallpaper is undeniably dark in color, the fanciful dragonfly pattern is absolutely enchanting, keeping things light in spirit.
twenty2 is a really cool wallpaper and textile company that I discovered - established in Brooklyn, NY it was founded by a husband and wife team that created their first hand-printed wallpaper back in 2003. If you’re interested in adding texture, but not a pattern, to your walls, you simply must check out their colorful Grasscloth!
First off, their Grasscloth by the yard is completely eco friendly, which is always a major PLUS for me! Second, this woven jute wall covering comes in seven wonderfully earthy tones, making it perfect for any home.
Another way to get creative with your wall coverings? Think outside of the box! How cool is it that this school of fish jumps off the wall and onto this endtable?
Let’s just hope they don’t have to rearrange their furniture! :)
Have any of you had any fabulous success stories with adding wallpaper to your home, and if so, what patterns do you recommend that I look into?
FUN TASK:
If you could create your own wallpaper pattern, ANYTHING in the world, what would you choose to adorn your walls with? This is almost like that challenge on a recent season of “Project Runway,” when the designers could print their own fabric to construct a garment from. Let your imagination run wild!
I am going to send $25 Pottery Barn gift cards to some of my favorites :)

Here's an example of the wallpaper:
Here's another example of how my room will be.

I would absolutely love this in a room for my children. I love the bright colors and contrast the print has. I also think that elephants are extraordinary animals. They have so many traits that are human-like. The are very family oriented, the mourn for their loved ones, they come to help other elephants in need, and they will take in foster families. The are very loving to one another and I think that people could learn so much by these beautiful animals. I have a great respect and adoration for elephants and think this would be a great way to display my love of color and elephants.

Not that I wouldn't like it on others walls, just not mine. That blue fishy wall and table are adorable.
But I would design something very old. Like faux peeling plaster looks, peeling paint looks... ancient walls.
Something like that.
I think my brain could handle that.

If I could design a wallpaper, it would be Autumn leaves. All over. I mean ALL OVER it. Completely covered. Those hues of red, brown and gold would be just stunningly warm and inviting for a cosy room, if used to cover just one or two walls, I think. I'd decorate the rest of the room relatively plainly but in earthy, natural shades of terracotta, cream and golden reddish colours, sumptuous fabrics such as velvet and silk, and lots of soft furnishings to cuddle down on. An open fire would complete an environment to warm the cockles of even the coldest heart. :-)
This is so beautiful, and exactly what I had in mind!
As an aside...you know that beautiful eco-friendly grasscloth you so love? Well, I love it so much I once decorated my hallway in it (in a natural creamy shade). Unfortunately it's very cat-friendly too, and my old kitty Hestia went to town on it as a scratch post! Great for her claws, but not so great for my decor!!
So if you have cats, I really wouldn't recommend it. Or at least, use it high-up. ;-)

Your bedroom will still look normal in the daylight (since it's supposedly invisible), but when it's nighttime and you've turned off the lights, then you'll see the transformation.
I've only checked on the first 2 websites in Google, for the companies that does night sky murals.
They are Starscapes in US -> http://www.starscapes.com/starpage2-20.htm
and Nightsky3d in Australia - > http://www.nightsky3d.com/
Here's a picture of a sample of what it's supposed to look like:
Picture from: http://www.nightsky3d.com/
If it's possible, I would love to try other themes, instead of just the night sky!
Here are my top 3 ideas:
1) Avatar jungle/landscape. Seriously!!! Doesn't it look amazing??!? I want it in my room!!!
Artwork by: http://eneada.deviantart.com/a...-149807367
2) Fireflies under the light of the moon.
It's soo dreamy and soothing!! The fireflies will fade one by one as the (Glow in the Dark) paint, stops emitting light.
Pictures: Random pics found on the internet.
3) Fireworks!! Big splashes of colour from your walls to your ceiling, that will slowly fade just like actual fireworks.
Picture found: http://blog.lib.umn.edu/logem006/architecture/
Runner Ups:
- Big magical tree painted on your headboard up to the ceiling just above you, so it would look like you are lying under a tree, peaking through the branches to see the stars.
- Floating or falling petals or leaves.
That's it! Enjoy!!

Keeping with the theme of dandelion seeds, I'd love this on a single wall in the living room. I'd pair it with furniture in deep, solid colors. Light hardwood floors, I think!
So simple, yet classy. I'd keep the print fairly large to avoid it appearing too crazy busy.
Lastly, how fun would it be to have a black and white picture of every family member making a wish like this:
I'd hang them on an adjacent wall, or in a hallway.
This all brings back memories of my girlhood, blowing away those seeds, and making wishes!
