ITS THE LITTLE THINGS IN LIFE

ITLTIL_IMG01405-20100804-2144

It really is the little things that make life so special.

Once a week, my boyfriend leaves me fresh cut roses in my house to make sure that I have a good week. This is super sweet and actually always puts a smile on my face. This week the roses were baby pink, so cute. Feel good flowers!

Simple things like this can really brighten your day - they definitely brighten mine.

I took a few photos of this week’s roses to share with you.

This color reminds me of Carina’s Soft Touch blush, a delicate pink shade. Lovely.

This made me think of flowers and how much I love them. One of my all-time favorite bags is a Chanel quilted tote with handpainted flowers. Ummm amazing.

ITLTIL_IMG01415-20100809-1110

My Balenciaga clutch has a beautiful floral print as well. It’s a fun clutch and adds some major flair to any outfit.

ITLTIL_IMG01416-20100809-1112

I loved the light and fresh crocheted bags that Karl sent down the Spring 2010 runway using Chanel’s trademark camellias.

These are just a few of my floral musings..I could go on all day.

FUN TASK:

What is a way you’ve incorporated florals into your style, whether it’s a pattern you love or wearing fresh flowers in your hair?

A few that catch my eye will get Soft Touch and this pretty floral mug.

I like floral scents, so I usually start the day with a quick floral spray. I'm currently using B&BW Peony. I also like Clinique Happy which has both citrus and floral scents.

I have a photograph from floraide which is a flower festival in Australia that I keep on my desk. I was there many years ago and just looking at the flowers evoke pleasant memories of my trip and cheer me up.
Here's a picture from the festival.

I keep my hair tied up in the day and I will sometimes add a flower hair accessory to jazz up my pony tail.

I also have a bag with a dangling small flowerpiece as a decoration that I use on other days.

I knit, so I have knit some floral pins to accent some clothes. I also love floral pattern sheets, most of my sheet sets have floral patterns in either pink or blue.

I totally agree. It’s the mini moments and little things that lift our spirits and let us know that life is a gift. In the early morning I love to walk outdoors with my dogs, smell the clean fragrances and pick a little nature to place in a small vase on my countertop. Some of these (herbs with flowers) I put into a teapot for my morning brew. The aroma and taste of the tea plus the vision of nature in my kitchen begin my day with a smile.

I always have fresh flowers on my balcony, since I grew up with my family always having a rose garden. I also usually wear darker clothing (I'm permanently avoiding bright clothing) so I have these doc martins that I wear a lot because they a) make my mom happy and b) add a little girly touch to my usually black ensemble.

I can't help but love the Doc's, so completely comfortable and even though some people say tacky, totally adorable with a pair of skinny jeans.

oh, florals! i should really include a picture of my closet of dresses - vintage floral patterns all over! i used to stick to the bold and bright 60s floral dresses, but now i tend to look for the more romantic and feminine 50s style, and the beautifully embroidered dresses from the 20s.
but, concerning contemporary design: how beautiful was the galliano for dior haute couture show!? dreamy!

I make floral embellishments and pin them on the clothes that I wear. I take scraps of fabric or old clothes that I see around the house that haven't received any love and just cut them up and make flowers out of them. I hot glue the back with felt and place a pin or a alligator clip on them to secure in place.

I love how versatile they are. They can be used as a hair clip in my hair to give my hair some flair, or on an otherwise plain shirt and turn it into something sweet, or even on a chain and wear it as a soft, romantic necklace.

I find some of my inspiration pieces from Anthropologie. One piece is this beautiful one I found there recently which I'm thinking of making out of some scrap fabric and a ribbon:

I live just a few blocks away from our local Farmer's Market - I live in Iowa and the farmer's markets is wonderful! Every Saturday morning I walk down there and pick up a few things - like fresh produce or homemade wine - and everyweek I get a bundle of fresh flowers...for just $3!! They are the most beautiful aromatic flowers...and they change with the season. In the late spring the flowers are pastel snap-dragons and lilac-colored roses with mulit-colored 'wid' flowers. Since we are getting closer to fall, the bundle usually includes a few big golden sunflowers. The farmers that bring in these lovely flowers put them in those antique, aqua-colored mason jars. I bought one of those jars the first time I got a bundle of flowers and every week I put my new aray of flowers in this pretty little jar. SO lovely!!!
With this Ring!
written by kee kee, August 10, 2010
I am totally into flowers and girly things. I try to incorporate flowers into all my outfits by wearing flower rings. I just love big flower rings, they add such an elegance to any outfit. I own about twelve flower rings. Most of them are fairly inexpensive, but a few are my prized posesstion that was passed down to me from generation to generation. I also love wearing flower scarves, to asset my outfit. I usually wear a plan/ solid color outfit and pop it with a vibrant flower scarf.
Liberty fabric bracelet
written by Virginie Maignal, August 10, 2010
I use to wear my favorite bracelet from A. Bidermann, it's a painted shell on a torn floral liberty thread. But I wore it so much during summer 2009 (ocean, swimming-pool..) that the liberty thread almost disappear.
This small piece of Liberty was my only touch of floral cause I'm more rockandroll kind of girl, BUT I will kill for that hand-painted flowers Chanel bag.

Growing up in Seattle was amazing. Everything is always green, and when I needed any horticulture pick me up they were always around. When it comes to tulips, orchids in the house, or spider plants. I always had them around me.
I've made a head band plenty of times by using flowers. It gives your look a late sixties flower child look, with a loose off the shoulder shirt, a peasant/ airy tank. Some 24/7 Urban Decay eyeliner and you are set with a blush pink lip color. AMAZING!!
I also had several 70's inspired rings with a similar design like this

You could also could make an inspiring room using vintage wallpaper to give a cute/unique punch to a room. Flowers will NEVER go outa style... Keep it unique, simple, and don't over do it.

Everyone will love it. Bottom line. smilies/smiley.gif
Petals
written by cristie j, August 10, 2010
I pick flower petals off and quick dehydrate them in my dehydrator.
Then I fill vases with the dried petals. Very pretty. I started doing this as a young girl when I would tear out the silk from the Milkweed pod.
I didn't know what to do with the silk, but I knew I had to keep it, so I stuffed vases and put them in my bedroom. Now that is incredible to look at.
They make good gifts, too.

I started wearing flowers in my hair. I have very thick wild curly hair that tends to look a bit unruly. When I pin it of my face and add a few fresh flowers it makes me feel so feminine and carefree! I got my friends doing it too! I buy a bouquet of flowers at the beginning of the week. We put them in a vase of water and each one of us picks out a flower or bud and dresses up our hair!
Perfume
written by kittenofk, August 10, 2010
I have an extra-sensitive nose so perfumes can really affect me. I always will remember going to my grandmother's and she always put her perfumes in those antique bottles with the atomizer's and swab stick. Her most precious perfume was this Lily of the Valley scent that she would only let me use on rare occasions when we were dressed to go out. The sweet floral was amazing and especially using the antique bottle just made my day feel that much more...royal...I suppose. xo, k.

I absolutely fell in love with this ring! It adds the perfect dash of sparkle to spice up an everyday outfit or bit of excess to make a club outfit feel pulled together.

But, what makes this ring my signature flower piece is that everytime someone sees me wearing it, they say, "I'd never imagine you wearing something like that, but now that I have, I can't imagine you NOT wearing it."

Perfect blend of hippy glam smilies/smiley.gif

Floral Love!

I love floral motifs in my design work, because they make any outfit instantly girly. This top I designed with a large black flower so it is easy to throw on and instantly has a statement accessory. Inspired by Carrie Bradshaw from Sex in the City, large flowers are classic, flirty, and a great going out look!

Here are my floral things:

I use almost every day flowers as a part of my outfit. I can put one for example on my jacket collar or on a plain shirts front.

My cellphone bag and calender covers are also floral and my makeup bag too.

My favourite shoes for this summer has been my flip flops and here is a picture of them too:

I guess I have always used something floral, but I incorporate small details to my outfits. I don't use any floral clothes because I think that's too much for my look.

Hey Taylor,

I love floral print! I purchased quite a few spring floral button-down dress shirts from Gap. I love color and floral print really makes an outfit feminine, playful, and sexy. Another way, I wear floral is through lacesmilies/wink.gif Lace is my favorite fabric because it's using floral in a subtle or dramatic mysterious way that can be revealing or a way to enhance the fabric underneath it. I have two Betsey Johnson dresses that are both drenched in different black floral lace print!! I absolutely love them and I have yet to get a pair of black lace pumps ^_^

I also love gardening...even though I don't have a backyard..lol. I am currently growning the flower Snapdragon. I love them because they are soo vibrant..the yellow ones and the sunset pinkish orange colored ones are my favorite

Definitely jewelry

Hey Taylor,
I just recently rediscovered my childhood passion for making wire jewelry. I just get fascinated by the metals and stones that were once deep in the ground and through meticulous work of a number of craftsmen land on my hand shining mysteriously shin and I love wondering where they come from. My friend was getting married a few weeks ago and, inspired by this beautiful event, I created a station necklace with rock crystal roses. I find the combination of clarity and hardness of rock crystal combined with innocence and fragility of a rose shape very representative of genuine love and affection. My friend wore it to her wedding.

I dig your post about the little things. I completely agree that those small details add life & spark. It is also a way to meditate for a second. I don't have the patience to sit in lotus position and chant but I can take in a detail of beauty and clear out my mind. As a milliner just looking at a vintage spool of thread, some soft feathers, or the raw base waiting like a blank canvas... I see potential in everything. It is, indeed, the simple things.

I want to tell you that I saw that horrible show and wrote the network an email listing my complaints and dismay. Those people should not be mentioned here. But you are such a cool chick and you have 100% of my support. You were the only reason worth watching. I guess I have to find some other way to entertain myself ;-)

THE BEAUTY AND VERSATILITY OF FLOWERS

Our family really appreciates the beauty of nature, and one of our favorite pastimes is to go on nature walks. We have learned to identify various plants and wild flowers doing this. My children and I sometimes make our own paper using colorful flowers and leaves that we have collected. Some we keep and others we give as unique handmade gifts with a personal touch. I also use flowers to make my own potpourri.

Flowers are so feminine and beautiful and make me happy whether I am looking at them, smelling them, wearing them, or using them in some kind of art form. Roses are my absolute favorite.

I make my own perfumes using natural essential oils from flowers and other plant parts. My perfumes truly are my own unique style since my fragrance compositions are my very own. I use flowers from my organic garden to make floral water, which I use on my skin and hair and also share with family and friends.

In our home some walls have floral print wallpaper, while other walls hold floral paintings. Other decor includes gold-embossed, rose-trimmed picture frames and vases.

My favorite tea set looks like a full bouquet of roses. The entire outside of the ceramic cups are covered with carved roses painted hot pink. The matching saucers, cake platter, and dessert plates are trimmed in this same way. Rose tea made fresh from the organic rose petals of our garden tastes soft, delicate, and naturally sweet. Tea time is one of my favorite times.

I agree that the little things in life make it more special: a sweet, colorful flower; a fun, leisurely walk; a relaxing, hot cup of tea; and a warm, bright smile.

Your boyfriend sounds like a true sweetheart! ♥ My go-to staple lately is floral, floaty dresses with combat boots. A couple weeks ago, I laid out a few [9] of my favorite dresses and took a picture. I loved the colors so much that I decided to blow the photo up into a poster, frame it, and hang it in my bedroom. Check it out below. :-)

Anyways, I usually wear a light floral spray or if I do happen to be out and see a pretty flower that makes me smile i will put it in a shirt pocket or if my hair is pulled back i will stick it in my hair. I love flowers. They really can bring a smile to your face and lighten your mood. I also love this old pink flower bag i got from a thrift store, i love to carry it in the summer. =]
