MY JUICE CLEANSE JOURNAL

New year, new body!!

Since the beginning of the year, I’m really in it to win it. I really want to be as healthy as possible in 2011..which means eating better, cutting back on the booze, working out more, walking, hiking, no late night eating, snacking when I'm on the go..all of the bad habits I have.

To get myself jump started, I thought I would do a juice cleanse. I want an overall revamp for my body, inside and out..and I also want to drop all the holiday weight I put on!!!

I thought I’d take you through a visual journal of my three day Real Raw Live juice cleanse...fancy!!

The juices came right to my door and are conveniently labeled..

MJCJ_IMG00294-20110108-1051

MJCJ_IMG00295-20110108-1051

First drink of the day...blue algae..super shoot.

MJCJ_IMG00299-20110108-1052

This is my lunch..drink 3 of the day. Starting to get hungryyyyyyy.

MJCJ_IMG00306-20110108-1315

My afternoon snack..I think my face says it all!!!

MJCJ_IMG00311-20110108-1615

The first day of the juice cleanse I was like “kill meeeeeeee I'm soooo hungry. Give me a slice of pizza please!”

So then of course all my evil friends sent me BBM’s that they were eating pizza! Sooo unfair.

Kill me. Love my turquoise ring, though.

MJCJ_IMG00309-20110108-1614

I totally went to bed super early all three nights..tried to sleep to avoid the hunger. I tweeted “I can't stop blurting out pizza orders and sushi orders..I can't go much longer..!”

Sooo funny!!!!

Shockingly, I made it all three days and finished the cleanse. My first meal in three days was oatmeal with banana.

MJCJ_IMG00312-20110109-0909

My second breakfast..egg whites with turkey.

MJCJ_IMG00313-20110109-0910

It was all downhill from there. Was on a shoot and started eating everything in sight from craft services!!! Got all the toxins back..ugh.

I’ve come to the conclusion that juice cleanses are evil!!! Haha

MJCJ_up6tq

MJCJ_9yjdc

From there it was chicken and waffles...

MJCJ_3a2wf

My day ended up being a 15 hour music video shoot and food extravaganza. I just can’t.

MJCJ_nzfa

Until the next cleanse!!!

FUN TASK:
Have you ever done a juice cleanse? Any tips for me if I ever attempt to try this again??

My tips
written by Scoodydoo, January 11, 2011
I think that the biggest thing is to change your eating habits a little before you start, such as eating smaller amounts and healthier choices. I did this the second time around and I feel like it helped me ease into the whole thing.

Taylor my best advice would be to not do another cleanse! I've done it twice and both ended just like yours.

I always say a healthy life begins with eating right. You can still get all the benefits of a cleanse if you eat a vegan/vegetarian diet along with drinking the superfoods/juices. It is easier to stuff yourself with items such as baked or steamed vegetables (because you can eat as many as you want... and I like to add spices and a little olive oil) which will be easy on the body to digest then you can incorporate the juices of your preference. You may want to do this for longer than three days of course and if you stick with it, you may want to change all together... its not about starving yourself but it is about putting clean food in your system and letting the body naturally flush you system. On hard long days such as you day on a photo shoot... ordering steamed veggies from a Chinese restaurant could suffice or an order from local VegHead restaurant! Good Luck!

Never done it. Do not plan to do it. And what were you eating in that first picture? The little flat thing with chocolate looking stuff, on it?

You look great.

i love Real Raw Live in LA. i'm the damn Duchess of that place...however, i don't think i could subsist on juice alone. but a detox cleanse sounds like a pretty apropos way to kick off the new year...

This is great...and funny. I do a week-long cleanse once a year and it really sucks. Just giving up coffee is torture. I will walk by a cafe and the aroma calls to me... But, if you sick it out, the end results are glowing skin, a smaller waistline, and an overall better, more alert feeling. And, sleeping better (yup, going to bed early to avoid the pains of hunger.) Just think that you only have this one body and you really should take better care of it now, rather than later. Oh, and if it was easy, everyone would do it...
p.s. You look great...and I love your turqoise ring too.
the fat flush!!!!
written by katherine kanish, January 11, 2011
Forget about the juice...i want some kind of sustenance during the day! The fat flush diet is a liver cleanse and a diet! It is a graded processes where you cut out basically everything...and then each week after the toxics in your body have been eliminated, you get to reintroduce some foods back into your diet! Its TOUGH of you like coffee, wine, bread, cheese...(the good stuff), but the benefits for you body are amazing!!! I was introduced to this diet by a doctor when a loved one had been diagnosed with cancer. Get healthy smilies/smiley.gif

Guuurl. You and a pal should get out to Desert Hot Springs and go to We Care Juice Fasting and Spiritual Retreat. They take you through every step of the process and help you reintegrate back to the real world (and the facilities are amazing). So worth it... I still use their tips for cleansing.

Do a pre juice cleanse diet of green and fruit smoothies and raw fruits, veggies and nuts. Do that for 2-3 days before to get your body used to the lack or carbs, grease and crap. Also you should come off your cleanse this way. It's hard as hell but just remember why you are doing it! And think that a juice cleanse is much better than the master cleanse in the sense that you have variety and some flavor!! Try having a juice cleanse buddy to keep you motivated! I hope this helps and maybe you'll try it again!

best idea would be to slowly ease your way into the cleanse. eat healthily beforehand, and find a cleanse that starts slow. i believe there might be cleanses out there that first substitute one drink for a meal/snack for day 1...then 2, and so on. also, get a friend to do it with you! nothing works better than motivating each other to stay on track during and after the cleanse! plus, the experience of it all will make you guys closer! smilies/smiley.gif good luck, taylor!

Monitoring caloric intake is a priority for me. I also try to keep my food under 35% fat.
It's All About Balance :)
written by Valentina2011, January 11, 2011
To me, eating is all about balance and consistency. Nowadays, no one cares about the food pyramid anymore, and I didn't for the longest time. People have tried decades to re-proportion the food pyramid, focusing on cutting carbs or adding protein. But to be honest, the food pyramid is the key to staying healthy and fit. I'm 5'6" and I've never gone over 120 lbs--I've stayed in the 110-115 range for the past 4 years and haven't deviated from it, even after entering college, and it was all due to my Japanese diet smilies/smiley.gif

The Japanese diet strictly follows the food pyramid, but redistributes the portions throughout the day, so that:

Breakfast:
2 servings of grains
1 serving of fruit
1 dairy

Lunch:
2 servings of grains
2-3 serving of vegetables or fruit
1 serving of protein
1 serving of dairy (can be as a snack)

Dinner:
0-1 serving of grains
1-2 servings of vegetables
2 servings of protein

I rarely eat things with sugar, or simple carbohydrates. It is commonly said that eating foods with fat is significantly better than eating foods with sugar, and it is certainly true. I don't care about my fat intake at all, as long as it is not excess (as in, you are not solely eating fried chicken every meal) but I really really watch my sugar intake, because sugar will make you gain fat so much faster.

Sugar is "fat free", but if you intake just a little excess sugar, the sugar will be converted into fatty acids by your liver, which stores sugar and has a relatively low storage capacity, and then stored in your body as fat. Of course, the sugar I am talking about is white sugar, or sucrose, not sugar from fruits, which is fructose. They have a different chemical structure which makes them have different properties in the body. You will not get fat from eating fruits, as we all know smilies/smiley.gif

For each meal, I try to vary the types of fruits and vegetables so that I can cover a wider spectrum of nutrients. This website:

http://nutritiondata.self.com/

is an awesome way to check out the nutritional facts of almost every food that exists in America.

Also, it is best not to eat 4-5 hours before you sleep, and drink milk if you're hungry smilies/smiley.gif

However, to be honest, you look so thin and pretty in all of your pics smilies/smiley.gif

I have never tried a juice cleanse but maybe I should. I have gained 20 pounds since I met my BF three years ago and I am determined to drop that additional weight this year.
Taylor I really enjoy your blog because you are REAL! You share your true experiences. Taylor I would just drink more water, take vitamins (fish oil, biotin and etc), work out at least twice a week and don't deprive yourself. That is my plan!smilies/wink.gif

I have not done a juice cleanse before, but I have replaced some meals with fruit/vegetable juices. I find that it is generally difficult for me to last a day without eating, unless I am relaxing at home.

My recommendations for a juice cleanse would be to plan it such that it's during a time when you can relax with books or music. Some of my favourite combinations include:
- green apple with carrot (green apple gives the juice a nice "zing"),
- orange and pineapple,
- lime with manuka honey (not exactly a fruit juice, but simply too yummlicious and good for detox)

You can also supplement the juices with celery, carrot or cucumber sticks (no dressing!).

Dear Taylor, I sincerely don't think you need a Juice Cleanse, so please leave this drastic remedy and choose something more affordable for your organism!
I've done this about 3 times in my life, and is terrible!
I don't like it so much, I've done it only to cleanse away some holiday excess (and in rare occasions when I had some disorders)

So I've tried other methods because I was too crazy to continue!

But As I've done it I can help you with some tips I've found useful for me!
First of All don't stress your body for long time with this method, or you'll get worse results!
So ensure to going back to normal after 3/4 days, not more!
The juice cleanse typically only lasts anywhere between 1 to 3 days for safety and health reasons.
You can throw in one meal a day to make your diet more interesting and to add a little leeway.
Don't do a juice cleanse during the cold season; your body will need solid food to survive!

So here other Tips!

1) Don't tell everybody about your Juice Cleanse!
Not all the People won't help you! Some people will tempt you so much that you will hate them for all your life (or for some months, it depends)
Only tell close family members who will encourage you on. If you're being invited out for lunch/dinner during your fast, just simply turn down the invite and say that you have made other plans for lunch/dinner.

2) Turn off all food temptations (is too difficault I know, food is everywhere!)
Avoid especially TV, every commercial break, you will be tempted with all kinds of food.

3) Pamper and indulge yourself
Take a nice long bath in scented water in the bathtub. Ask your spouse to take over caring of the children while you take time to soak in the tub. If possible, you might want to indulge yourself with full body skincare, exfoliate and moisturize after a good soak. Or, simply visit the neighborhood spa.

4) Sleep
Even with a prolonged juice fast, it is possible to continue with life's fairly normal work patterns. The first few days when your body is busy eliminating wastes, you may feel a bit tired and wanting to sleep. At this stage, give in to your body and allow yourself to have a good sleep. Sleep an hour earlier than normal at night, to give your body that much needed rest.

5) After the juice cleanse, you can then resume your normal eating habits-but make the transition slowly and surely!

I've also found these on the web and I thought could be useful (for me too)!

Colon cleansing
If you intend to go on a prolonged juice fasting, it is important to also do a proper colon cleansing. Toxins that are not eliminated through bowel movements get reabsorbed into the system which may cause unnecessary health problems. Learn up on colon cleansing and look for a reputable local colon cleansing (colonic irrigation) spa or program that is suitable for you.

Dilute
Diluite all fruit juice with water (one part juice to 2-4 parts water) and drink throughout the day. We've found that 2 cups fruit juice blended with ½ tray of ice cubes comes up to 4 cups--the perfect dilution and it's frothy cold.

xoxo

Oh, I forgot some Suggestion about the FOOD WAY!

Are you Sure juice cleanse is the way?? smilies/smiley.gif

NO!!!!!!
written by mochababe73, January 13, 2011
My advice is to don't do it.
I have done a hypnosis CD, and I think that it works better than anything. I was soooo skeptical at first, but I can wear my skinny jeans without sucking in everything. I have totally changed my eating habits, and I stay off of the scale. Looser clothing is all the "scale" that I need.
I say eat what you like but in moderation. For example, I love Chick-fil-A. However, I eat a kid's meal, and it's very satisfying.
I loved seeing you on the Style Network talking about Kate Beckinsale. You looked great! Good luck in 2011.

Hi Taylor,

Maybe it wasn't the most successful experience of your life this juice cleanse but I find this journal just awesome smilies/smiley.gif You made me laugh girl smilies/cheesy.gif And I think I’m not the only one.

I have never done a juice cleanse. My tip for you is to keep going with the healthy lifestyle but don’t forget to respect your taste and personality. As long as the things you do don’t deliver you any pleasure or satisfaction, you won’t be able to succeed. Just have a fun!
Thank you for a healthy dose of laughter! smilies/cheesy.gif
Advice
written by nicoleeee, January 14, 2011
my advice dont do them! dont deprive yourself of food, because if and when you do you are going to beinge and pack on all the calories. Just take it one day at a time and have your clean days (when you eat just clean foods and liquids) set aside. So you dont feel as if you where cheating the whole week lol

idk that's what I would do (stole form microsoft) lol

written by woopwoop, January 17, 2011
I would say well done for trying it. smilies/smiley.gif

You should try to introduce this slowly, so over the weeks, start eating more fruit and vegetables and slow reduce other foods.

I would suggest hiding all those tempting foods and drinks before your cleanse, this is going to help you eliminate temptation and allow you to focus on your desired goals.smilies/wink.gif

You should try using fresh fruits, rather the prepared juices, this way you can choose which fruits and vegetables you prefer, so can be more enjoyable, you may find a lovely combination.

Also try to do this during warmer weather, because your lacking calories, so in the summer it could be much easier to do it.

I would say get some books on it and read loads of tips to make it easier when you try it again.

The fruit and vegetable juices recommended during a juice detox plan are juices from carrots, kale, cabbage, celery, apples, pineapple, spinach, cranberry, beets, tomatoes and an assortment of greens of your choice. Citrus fruits are fine too, while foods like wheat grass are very detoxifying and healthful. Green vegetables and sprouts should figure prominently on the juice fast detox plan as they contain chlorophyll, which boosts detoxification.

You still need to keep active, so stretch or do a light workout to keep your body moving and your muscles toned. Perspiring is an important part of effective cleansing. Spend some time in a sauna, a steam room or Jacuzzi.smilies/grin.gif

You should focus on all the wonderful things its doing for you, like glowing skin.

You should indulge yourself by doing fun things to distract you.
