Remember making mix tapes?!
What is so great about mix tapes is that the songs themselves have meanings individually, but when we arrange those songs according to our mood or hopes and dreams, they create a greater message and a completely new artistic meaning. Each mix tape is so personal and so unique! It's totally 100% girl art.

One of my cousins broke up with her boyfriend after some 4 years; after sharing a long cry and a whole lot of laughs, you realize you just have to be there to offer your support, love, and encouragement...
And a mix tape!
I knew for sure, Anya Marina was going to be in the mix.
Needless to say I am all excited and sent my cousin an email that “I had reinforcements coming” -- of course in the form of Anya Marina and some Duran Duran!

(I think Nick Rhodes is wearing Wildflowers eye shadow :)
I was on a mission to create the ultimate mix tape, so I started rifling through my CD’s, my ancient records, and cassette tapes – by the way, I came across a Men Without Hats tape, Safety Dance anyone?
The thing is I couldn’t find a blank tape to compile my song list.
And I realized there were no more tapes.
Even if I found a blank tape, was she going to be able to play it?
CD’s are just not mix tapes, they become dusty coasters near the computer…I started to wonder if this was going to even happen. I mean the purpose was to rekindle her spirit.
I needed a cassette tape!
And that’s when I found the perfect “modern day” solution for the mix tape from my girls over at Viva La Rock!
How cute is this!!

It’s a USB STICK that fits into a cassette!!! LOVE IT!
You can have it in your purse and listen to your music on the go, or even better create a mix tape and share it with a friend, or just give them away as gifts. They also make the perfect stocking stuffer.
http://store.vivalarock.net/
You have to be Fans of Viva La Rock.

I mean check out these amazing mix tape pillowcases :)

I am going to make mix tapes and give them to my girlfriends!
Now how about you!

(Look how my little Olive is smiling too!)

Since 10 is the magic number (10 prizes will be picked on December 10), I put 10 songs on my mix tape. I tried to make themed for your cousin or any other girl that is going through a breakup. It starts with your heart broken and that love sometimes hard (a battlefield). Then it moves on to that there is someone out there for everyone and to not give up hope. Then I wanted to encourage the fun times with friends, to look back on all the positive memories, and to create new memories. Next are a couple fun songs that you can’t help but sing and dance with, but most importantly to laugh with. Then to finish the list, a couple songs to remember your roots and that you still have your family and friends that care about you and support you. Of course I’m from Chicago, so that is why that song has a special place in my heart! These are just my thoughts on the songs, but they can be interpreted however you choose.
My Mix Tape!
Heart of Glass - Blondie
Love Is a Battlefield – Pat Benatar
Somebody to Love – Queen
Don’t Stop Believin’ – Journey
Girls Just Want to Have Fun – Cyndi Lauper
Good Times Roll – The Cars

Sweet Home Chicago – West End Orchestra & Singers (Blues Brothers)
I love how music just has this way of healing. It seems like there is always a perfect song to match whatever mood you are in.
Best Wishes to all of you lovely ladies.
