ECO ROCK AND ROLL BANDS!

ERARD_live-nation-partner-for-recycling

For today’s blog, I wanted to focus on eco-friendly rock and rollers - just because they play wicked tunes and party all night doesn’t mean they can’t be green!

PlanetGreen.com picked their Top 5 Eco Rock Bands - so fun!! I just had to share this with you.

Have you all checked out “Entourage” star Adrian Grenier’s green lifestyle website SHFT.com?

Dave Matthews Band is featured in an episode of the site’s “Lighten Up” series (click here to head over to the page) and it gives an insight into the band’s sustainable ways.

Check out the video below!

For that reason, PlanetGreen named Dave Matthews Band their #5 Eco Rock Band, due to the guys’ effort at reducing their carbon footprint on tour.

DMD uses bio diesel powered buses and generators when on tour, and even offer online carpool services to fans heading to their concerts! How cool!!

Plus, you never know, you could meet some really cool people when carpooling - new friends (and saving gas!) are always a bonus to checking out Dave Matthews Band live :)

Coming in at #4 on PlanetGreen’s countdown is one of my hubby’s favorite bands, Pearl Jam.

You may or may not know that the band has donated over $100,000 to green organizations that work to fight climate change.

The band also has helped to save the rainforest by offsetting carbon emissions from touring. Love an eco-conscious guy!

The Roots come in at #3, and are a part of a “green music group” with fellow musicians Maroon 5 and Guster. It’s like they have their own mini musical Fan Club - ha! :)

PlanetGreen also reports that the guys of The Roots also support PETA’s “Stop the Violence” campaign.

Are any of you Fan Clubbers out there supporters of PETA?

Checking in at #2 is Green Day.

Hey, it doesn’t hurt that they have the word “green” in their name! :)

Did any of you checked out their rock musical “American Idiot” while it was on Broadway?

ERARD_green_day-american_idiot-frontal

Turns out the guys are as passionate about sustainability as they are rocking out, as they’ve teamed up with the NRDC (Natural Resources Defense Council) which works to protect wildlife and wild places and to ensure a healthy environment for all life on earth.

The band also wants their fans to let Obama know that they support green energy! Woohoo!!

At the coveted #1 spot, we have Radiohead!

The guys of Radiohead released their critically acclaimed album “In Rainbows” digitally, saving so much plastic and other materials in the process.

Radiohead lead singer Thom Yorke even crashed the Copenhagen Climate Talks by posing as a reporter to get to the issues. That’s some dedication!

It’s so inspiring to hear about all these rockers that really care about the environment, they’re definitely inspiring!

FUN TASK:
If you could make a rock song about being eco-friendly, what would your green rock anthem be called? Let’s hear some sample lyrics!

I am going to send out $25 gift cards to iTunes so that you can discover some new tunes, and hopefully check out some recordings by the rockers above :)

My green rock song would be called Green Back Dollar. It would be about how all of our money is causing us to spend and pollute our planet.

My song would be called Seas of Change
about protecting out oceans

We always rely on what we dont know,
The destruction we cause to our own home
Seas of black
Seas of crude
Seas of blood
Seas of change is what we all need
Before the life is gone
Before the damage done

My song will be "Even the smallest action counts" to encourage all of us to take any action (even the smallest action such as recycling a soda can instead of throwing it away) to make a difference and save the earth.

Here's a snippet of the lyrics.

It's the little raindrops that form the ocean,
and the little sand that creates the shore.

It's the little stars that light up the night sky,
and the little fireflies that add a twinkle.

It's the little things that bring us joy,
and the little ones that the world is meant for.

It's the little thoughts that make a difference,
and even the smallest action counts.

I would call this anthem:

"SHOW THEM YOU CARE".

The inspiration for the title is about giving a voice to those around us who cant ask for help.

The animals whose environment is being destroyed, the destruction of wildlife, the construction of buildings meaning destruction of trees etc.

we all have a duty to make changes, to help the environment, there is so much individuals can do to make changes, rather then expecting others to do it, get up and do something.

The song lyrics would be:

we need to stop destroying these precious lands
we are surrounded by beauty from the hilltops to the lushiest greens
were animals strive to make a home
but were pollution and destruction is plaving havoc
show them we care

fill these lands with plants and goodness
preserve the wildlife through human kindness
dont sit back and let it happen make changes and help those around us
show them you care.
