If you see treating yourself as the tangible things; expensive massage, pedicure at a well-known salon, or a trip to the other side of the world, then you might have to wait until you are a few thousand dollars richer before you can enjoy some of the simplest treats of life. It is actually possible to treat yourself - and WELL - on a budget. Here are 10 possible ideas:
1. Pretend to be a tourist in your own city.
It sounds crazy, but try it out first. You can play as a tourist in your own city. Explore areas and places you’ve never been. Turn off the Internet or cellphone itself so you won’t be disturbed by work or friends (yes, even them). Make it feel as if you are in a new town you are unfamiliar with. At the end of the day, you’ll enjoy the false pretense and be happy before bed time.
2. Feel nostalgic with a movie marathon from a 10 or 20 year old flick.
What was that movie or TV flick that you loved so much some 10 or 20 years ago? Why not run a marathon? Loosen up. Make a bowl of popcorn and enjoy guilt-free hours on the couch or on the bed.
3. Get a blanket or hammock, then lay in your own garden.
Yes, savor the beauty of the vegetation. Enjoy your favorite snack. Re-read your favorite book.
4. Buy your favorite ice cream flavor on your way home.
It’s a simple way to treat yourself. And it works.
5. Grab your friends and have a picnic.
Whether you do it at the beach front or under a shade of tree in the park, you will love a day of picnic with friend. It’s a great excuse to relax, unwind and indulge yourself to a moment.
6. Bubble bath with rose petals.
Play relaxing music. Have a glass of wine while soaking in the water. A bubble bath might take you back to your childhood. It may also relax you so much that your stress level will momentarily dissolve.
7. Watch funny videos on YouTube.
Feels like the muscles in your face are too stiff from all the stress you had to deal with? Well, you probably need a good laugh. Loads of great humor can be found on YouTube. A quick suggestion, search for “best baby laughs”. Then laugh it out. You deserve it.
8. Buy yourself a bouquet of flowers.
Do it! You don’t always need to wait for somebody else to go out and do it for you. Pick your favorite, and display it in your room.
9. Invite friends for a Karaoke night.
YES. It’s a great way to reduce stress. Take a night off your regular routine and play the best jams you can think of. Belt them out loud. There will surely be laughter and good memories.
10. Buy something you’ve longed to have.
If it isn’t too pricey! Perhaps you stopped yourself from buying that thing, or you never went out to get it in the first place, because, well, you didn’t feel it a necessary item, more of a treat you would do without. If you want it, buy it. You deserve it.
11. Spend time with your pets!
Do you have a dog, or pup? A cat? Have an evening with them. Buy a new goodie for them. Sit them on the couch and watch a movie.
To treat yourself or simply have a break from time to time is not a luxury to feel guilty for. It’s actually a necessity. You don't want the pitfall of being burnout.
