Decisions, Decisions...

How do I choose the right shade of base for my face? This is a question we’ve all asked ourselves at some point. Searching for the right shade shouldn’t be a daunting task. Truth is, it’s quite simple, and we are here to help break it down for you!

image

1. KNOW YOUR SKIN TYPE!

Recognizing your skin type is a MUST when choosing the proper foundation shade. Knowing which skin type category you fall into will help you narrow down which class of foundation color(s) you should choose. (Your skin will love you for this, I promise!)

NORMAL- Skin feels & appears supple and vibrant.  No access oil.  Looks clean & smooth. Normal skin is the least problematic. Recommended Base-  JoJoba, Matte & Semi-Matte

DRY-  Skin feels & appears dry. Flaking of the skin is very common.  Dry Skin can develop wrinkles and irritates easily. Recommended Base- Jojoba

OILY-  Skin typically looks shiny and tends to have larger pores.  More prone to acne breakouts. Recommended Base- Matte

COMBINATION- (Most common) Skin has both dry and oily spots.  Oily areas tend to be on the forehead and nose (T-ZONE). Dryness is usually located on the cheeks and around the eyes. Recommended Base-  Matte and Jojoba

Choosing between our 3 beautiful bases should be quite simple now that you know a little more about your skin. All bases are formulated with high performance ingredients to help make your complexion flawless!

2. KNOW YOUR UNDERTONES

COOL- Pink or reddish complexions.  Skin typically burns easily. When looking at your hand or arm, veins appear blue. Silver jewelry complements this skin tone best.

NEUTRAL-  Beige with a bit of yellow or pink complexions.  Skin tans gradually. When looking at your hand or arm, veins tend to have a greenish tint to them.  Both silver and gold complement this skin tone.

WARM-  Yellow or peachy complexions.  Skin tans easily and does not usually burn.  When looking at your hand or arm, veins may have a slight greenish tint to them.  Gold jewelry complements this skin tone best.

*A recent study shows that 97% of the population has a warm undertone to their skin.  As only 3% of the population claimed having a cool undertone*

Here is a little more information on getting to know your undertones, as well as some handpicked base colors to go with each skin tone. https://www.everydayminerals.com/store/blog/carina/912-know-your-undertones/

3. DON’T FAKE IT

When choosing your foundation, you never want to change the color of your face. You, my friend, are wonderfully made- skin tone and all! When looking at a spectrum of beautiful colors (which can get overwhelming), always choose a color or colors that are visibly closest to the natural tone of your skin.

After all, who wouldn’t want to look effortlessly beautiful?!

4. APPLICATION IS KEY

One of the BIGGEST mistakes that we beauties make while on the hunt for our perfect match….

Applying foundation shades on our cheeks or hands- this is a major NO NO!

Your neck is the best area to test your potentials, because it is the area of the skin that is least exposed to the sun. Therefore, it is the closest match to your natural skin tone.

The Light Olive has been renamed as 1W Golden Ivory and 4W Golden Medium is the closest shade in comparison to the Olive Medium. You can also try other base shades like 2W Golden Light and 3W Golden Beige to see which one is your perfect shade. Thank You!

      Hi Soya,

You can try the 0W Golden Fair (formerly Golden Fair) and the 1W Golden Ivory (formerly Light Olive) Semi Matte through our 7 Piece Sample Kit. You can also try the Shell Blanc and Sand through the sample kit. Olive shades need green added, so we would recommend that you add the Mint Color Corrector to your base shade that matches closest to your complexion. Thank You!

I'm looking for advice on what to pick, I was using bare minerals matte foundation "fair" but I think I probably have more combination to dry skin. Do you know what color(s) might be closst to bare minerals fair? I've also been using the bare minerals BB primer cream "light" which did a great job of evening my mildly roscaia cheeks. I'd love to hear what you think! I can't wait to order! Thanks!

I always used the yellow toned multi-tasking concealer as I found the color yellow is best for concealing my dark circles. Neither can I find the Ginger peach eye shadow. Help please?

      Hi Patricia,

We still carry the Multitasking concealer, here's the link to it: https://www.everydayminerals.com/store/multi-tasking-mineral-concealers.html

We no longer carry the Ginger Peach eye shadow. We currently don't offer any eye shadows with shimmer but we will be offering a variety of pearl and shimmer type eye shadows very soon! Be sure to check our website for any updates! Thank You!

      Hi Crystal,

The Multitasking Neutral base has been renamed as 2C Rosy Light. It should be a similar shade to the former Multitasking Neutral base but it has fewer ingredients - no Lauroyl Lysine and the ultramarines. You can try the 2C Rosy Light or the Alabaster through our 7 Piece Sample Kit.

Hello, I haven't ordered any product for a year and now I see lots of things have changed. I have some questions; 1) I normally used Fair Matte or Fair Medium Matte, depending on the time of year. Which of the Jojoba colors would be a match for those? 2) I currently use the Sunlight Color Corrector for under eye circles, but I feel like it gives me that slight raccoon look. I am interested in trying one of the concealer sticks, but I'm not sure what the difference is between the Creme Color Corrector Stick and the Creme Concealer Sticks? Thank you!

    Reply
    • em

      Hi Lisa,

      1) You can try Alabaster or the Natural Ivory
      2) Crème Concealer sticks are flesh tone, these shades compare to our base shades and can be used anywhere on your skin, whereas the Color Corrector sticks are more aptly used for under eye darkness and have peach undertones. You can try the Peach or Soft Peach Color Corrector Stick for under the eye area and then add Finishing Dust over it to set the makeup. Thank You!

      Reply
      • Lisa S.

Thank you for the reply. Two more questions. 1) So when you use the Color Corrector Stick you don't use any base over or under it? You just apply the Color Corrector Stick and Finishing Dust over it? 2) Will the Peach or Soft Peach Color Corrector Stick blend well with the Fair Matte, Fair Medium Matte bases and the Alabaster or Natural Ivory Jojoba? Thank you.

        • em

          Hi Lisa,

You can certainly use Base over the Color Corrector Stick. It all depends on how much coverage you are wanting to achieve. We actually have a blog about the corrector sticks here:
          https://www.everydayminerals.com/store/stories/concealercorner/
The Soft Peach would be more ideal with Fair Matte and the other fair shades, as Peach would be too dark. Thank You!

I would like to try the 7-piece sample but the shades of matte/semi-matte bases are not available. According to the "newbies" page I'm ivory-neutral color and would need 1N. Are all the #1 shades out of stock or am I doing something wrong? Thanks so much!

You can try pressing the Ctrl button simultaneously with "+" or "-" to zoom in/out and see the whole window. It should allow you to see the whole pop up window in the 3 Piece Custom Kit and show all the other shades from the other pages which you can't view. The 1N Ivory is on the second page. Thank You!

Do they still come in the resealable packets or how are the samples packaged?

      Hi Franshesca,

Our samples have been available in sample size packets for almost 3 years now. We don't have samples in small jars. Yes, we used to put them in jars, but because we are an eco friendly company, sending samples out in jars did not follow our vision for our brand. We also use to offer 5 samples, but now we offer 7 samples. We offer samples so that our customer base can find their perfect shade among many categories of our products, samples are completely customizable.
