Healthy Living

  • As in all seasons, we must change our skincare regimen to match with our sudden adjustment to change in other lifestyle areas. As with changing out our denim shorts and tees to jeans, sweat sets and cozy sweaters, we must also trade out a few products or invest in new ones to accommodate the new scene. The similar issue the majority of us seem to face in cooler weather is increasing dryness in our skin, or a lack of summer glow, so without further adieu, these are my top products that I recommend incorporating into your newly adjusted fall routine.

    EVERYDAY NATURAL'S POMEGRANATE LIP SCRUB
This is a MUST year-round for me, really. The feeling of dry lips is always bothersome, so having a lip scrub - not to mention a super yummy lip scrub - on hand is convenient when my lips begin to even hint at making way for new, soft skin.

EVERYDAY NATURAL'S POMEGRANATE PLACE LIP BUTTER
These two really go hand-in-hand. A genuinely moisturizing “butter” that’s 100% vegan AND petroleum free (yuckyyy) to serve as a barrier and add a hint of gloss, which always makes the lips appear plumper, is a win-win for me. I often wear this "butter" directly over my bare lips, but for a meeting or dinner out, I'll generously dab it over my Everyday Natural's Lip Gloss of choice.

EVERYDAY NATURAL'S EVERYDAY NATURAL'S BAOBAB FACE OIL
This intriguing exotic blend is thoughtfully infused with the finest Baobab oil, which boasts an incredibly high amount of antioxidants and doesn't break out my super sensitive skin. I love how a little truly goes a long way with this one. When applying it, compared to other face oils, I find myself only using 1-2 small drops, and still getting intense hydration without feeling extra oily. Somehow even with my using it sparingly, I seem to go through these bottles as it's become a staple in my skincare routine.

PLANT APOTHECARY’S WASH YOUR FACE: ORGANIC ALOE FACE WASH
My skin has a love-hate relationship with every season. In summer, it's usually very oily and loves looking like a bright red tomato if I don't keep up with keeping inflammation at bay. As the weather begins to cool down in fall, it has a tendency to become a little dry in areas. I generally make a switch over to a lighter, way more gentle cleanser to balance my skin's mood. This Aloe Face Wash is non-stripping, has a delicate scent, is fragrance-free, and is suitable for ALL skin types, even the most sensitive.

ACURE’S ULTRA HYDRATING GREEN JUICE CLEANSER
This creamy supergreens-filled cleanser is just another I couldn't leave out, by one of my favorite brands Acure. It's formulated with holy basil, reishi mushroom, turmeric, kale, spinach, neem, spirulina and more to give a deep, purifying clean like no other. This one is also great for all skin types, but especially sensitive. For me, it hydrates any dryness that may arise, even after it's rinsed off. Read more

  • Hey Devri! Tell us a little about yourself & your journey.

My name is Devri and I am a writer and editor based in New York City, originally from Texas. Ihave worked in the editorial world for about a decade now, and I am super thankful for loving this life I have cultivated and worked so hard for. I also have a rare autoimmune disease called Takayasu’s Arteritis which affects only 1 in every 2 to 3 million people.

You've taken a rare condition that you deal with daily, Takayasu's Arteritis, and
have used it on your platform to empower others... Can you touch on this?

I was diagnosed when I was 20 years old - it was a life changer for sure. As a writer, a creative, a woman, and a woman of color living with something so rare, I could never not incorporate it into my everyday life and content because it is something I experience on a daily basis and have had to navigate through with challenges.

How are you taking in all that's happening right now while pushing to continue
    flourishing?

I take it day by day. Some days are easier than others. In the first two months of quarantine, I was devastated. Through it all, I’ve been able to keep working and staying busy, so that’s been good. I also have spent a lot of much needed alone time that I don’t think I would’ve given myself if the pandemic hadn’t happened. Read more

  • My skin is definitely on the combination/oily side, however when I’m going through a major breakout I tend to bump up the glycolic acid and other powerful acne-fighting yet unfortunately drying ingredients. A few of these products I’ll incorporate into my routine for 2-4 days as a barrier while my skin heals. And others I’ve listed, I would not personally use for my skin type as they be a bit heavy on my sensitive combo skin.

Pangea’s Organics Facial Cream Dry & Sensitive Skin

The Rose Otto Essential Oil in this facial cream is calming and deeply nourishing for all skin types, even sensitive & mature. Argan Oil is all the rave right now, and for good reason, it's glow inducing benefits with antioxidants like Vitamins A + E and complexion-loving omega-6 fatty acids and Linoleic Acid make it worthy in a woman's beauty wardrobe. Argan actually absorbs rapidly and in turn boosts cell turnover, which is crucial in any morning routine for bringing out sustainable supple skin. Shea Butter and Sunflower Oil further enhance the glow and even help with sun damage. Marshmallow plumps the skin and soothes unwanted dryness and premature aging. Read more

  • We’re going through a strange time. And for many of us, it’s taken a toll on our mental health, and for others still, the health state of our skin. My skin is particularly prone to breakouts, and in all of my years of constant trial & error, I have found a nighttime bath routine with a candle, Himalayan pink salt & a good face mask. These are just a handful of MANY I’ve used, my most-trusted mask bffs.

    Bodhi's 2-In-1 Cleansing Glow Mask

This soap-based clay mask gives the skin a deep purifying cleanse that promises glow power. It’s blended with Rice Bran and Sugar Crystals for exfoliation, Bentonite for pulling out all the yuckies that clog our pores day in & day out, Coconut Oil, Fair Trade Shea & Jojoba to retain moisture, and Matcha for glow enhancement.

Acure’s Seriously Soothing Biocellulose Gel Mask

This sheet mask, yep, rinse-free, is suitable for even the most sensitive skin. Ideal for thirsty skin needing a little hydration boost with its star ingredients fermented Coconut and Hyaluronic Acid & Plant Peptides, but also a go-to when relaxing in the salt-bath on good skin days.

    Acure’s Radically Rejuvenating Sheet Mask

Ultra-hydration for any skin type. This sheet mask contains nourishing Argan Oil and Hyaluronic Acid for skin-deep GLOW. Other key ingredients include Vitamin C, Vitamin B5 and soothing Cucumber Extract - perfect all-purpose facial treatment for your skin before the day is done. Read more

  • How did 'Hey Moon' begin?

I had been making ceramics for about 5 years and had a lot of vessels kind of piling up. I bought a starter candle making kit and made a few candles in the vessels I had. Then a good friend (who owns Little Sister salon here in Austin) asked me if I would consider making candles to sell in her shop. That was maybe 5 years ago? I’ve lost track of time!

Was creating heavenly-scented candles always in the cards for you?

It’s been a long road to where I am now. I never, ever thought I would be a candle maker!

At a glance, what does the process of bringing to life one of these look like?

It’s a lengthy process! Every vessel I make I throw on the potter’s wheel. Then I trim off the excess clay, dry, kiln fire, glaze, fire again, then pour the candle. After that, the candle needs to cure for about 2 weeks.

What kinds of scents are currently on the roster?

I’m always experimenting and changing the scent line up. I personally tend to go for really earthy and woody scents so many are in that family (Mesa, Tarot Den, Palo Santo, Wildwood). I also love florals (Dark Rose, Fields, Vetiver), and slightly unexpected fruity scents (Fig Harvest, Pomelo, Bergamot). Read more

  • When did you both first cross paths?!

We actually met the old fashioned way, at a mutual friend's birthday party back in 2010. Bret had had a few too many to drink so skipped the awkward introductory step and from this night on we were inseparable.

How do you work collectively on the content you create?

We don't! Kidding, we work pretty well together but creating content can get pretty stressful at times and it's hard not to vent your frustration at one another. But whenever this happens one of us will always take it on the chin and make the other laugh about something silly! Bret does all our editing and is best with a camera, whilst Evey prepares our captions and is better on that front.

What is your "mission" with your major platform?

Our mission when we set out was to travel and experience life without being tied down too much. However we had been doing just that for quite a while before Covid-19 came around, and since then we've been rethinking our approach. Bret has started a Personal Finance youtube channel (Bret Clay) and we plan to apply more travel money advice/tips into our instagram too. We want to teach people how to be financially independent and show what life can be like if you're committed to working hard. Read more

  • LOVVEEE following you both on your journey on the 'gram. Tell us your story...

Tyler: We started traveling together in 2015 to Australia & New Zealand and lived there for nearly two years. This was of course instead of University or Dance school. In late 2016 that’s where @thetwobohemians was created. A way to show our friends and family what we were up to without having to get on the phone daily. We took a cerbatical from the page until 2018 where we did a few adventures in Europe and decided to pick up the camera again, during our SE Asia trip 2019 was where the brand actually grew from a fun page to a fully fledged business and thus thetwobohemians was born. We did a few cycles of work in retail & hospitiality for a few months, then travel for 6 months before we found our footing into the social media world and made it something we could do together. Its been a crazy journey but in the 9 years of dating we’ve both turned vegan, traveled to 21 different places together, created another business, lived in 3 different parts of the globe, bought a Van and now travel fulltime and make an income of 6 figures doing what we love.
