“If your life flashes before you, what would you wish you would have done?” is a lyric from The Scripts’ “Live Like We’re Dying” which can really get you thinking, what if, that really did happen? What would you wish you would have done? Life, as it happens, is surreal and incredible. However, undesirable things may come your way and so do regrets.
Mistakes and regrets are inevitable. The least you could do is be the best version of you. First thing first: know what you want for real, not what the people is telling you to be but what is it that you want to be. Your goals may change over time but it is essential that your motivations are your desires in life and not the things that you are told to do.
You have to enjoy the journey. Do not just be focused on the results; your life is not a business. Nobody knows for certain what is going to happen at the end of their journey towards the goal, so you might as well enjoy the ride!
It’s important to realize that self-doubt is the best way to sabotage your life. Doubt will stop you from achieving your goals. Live each minute as if it counted, doing your ultimate best at everything. Along the way, always have a sense of purpose. Know why you’re doing what you do. To have a purpose in your life is to possess that inner strength to achieve the end-goal.
Live with gratitude. EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Be thankful, even of the little things you have instead of complaining for what you don’t have. The small things you may have overlooked . . . the convenient distance of the grocery store, the automatic washer and dryer in your laundry room, the soft bed you sleep on every night, all of those are blessings.
Actively pursue your hobbies. Find time to do what you enjoy. It could be an art, an activity or a sport, whatever it is that gets you excited. By working too hard for the future, you may have been missing out on all the things you should be enjoying why you are still capable of them.
Practice positivity. The difference between a positive and a negative person is that the negative person finds negativity even in the most positive situation while the positive person finds positivity in the most negative scenarios. Huge difference indeed.
Enjoy each new day as a fresh start. The bad things that happened yesterday, or the other day or those ancient history, just leave them behind. Stop the excuses. If you want to achieve something then do something about it. Your lack of resources, your status, and everything else that you think are obstacles to reaching your goal are only excuses. The moment you step up and focus on working hard and finding that solution, that is when you start making progress. Otherwise, you are stuck.
Lastly, no regrets. Like really, stop it already. Move forward and accept that life happens. There are certain aspects in life when you won’t have the power to turn things around. So continue to live life forward.
Remember these wise words from Mark Twain, “Twenty years from now you will be more disappointed by the things you didn't do than by the ones you did do. So throw off the bowlines. Sail away from the safe harbor. Catch the trade winds in sails. Explore. Dream. Discover.”
