We are proud to call the eclectic city of Austin, Texas the home base of Everyday Minerals, and if you’ve never set foot in it, we think it’s about time you did! There are tons of sights to see, places to explore, and a bevy of bars and restaurants to tickle your tastebuds. Never boring, and becoming one of the fastest growing cities in the United States, Austin is a constant source of inspiration and adventure for newcomers and long-time residents alike. If you’re planning a trip to our fine city (or need to be inspired to), we’ve put together a handy travel guide to help you make your stay the most enjoyable!

Austin has no shortage of cool places to rest your head, but our favorite is the Heywood Hotel located in the heart of Austin’s east side. Within walking distance of a ton of great bars, music venues, galleries and coffee shops, this quaint boutique hotel has a unique look and feel that you can only find in Austin. Each of its seven rooms are decorated with eclectic prints and furniture, and the common area features an “internet jukebox,” and a classy mod-decorated common area and patio. If you really want a taste of East Austin’s art scene, book your trip during the East Austin Studio Tours in which you can explore local artist studios on the east side.

The sip and dine scene in Austin seems to be getting more impressive daily with new spots opening up at an almost unheard of rate. If you’re looking for a good cup o’ joe or a tasty craft beer, we suggest hopping over to Brew & Brew on East 5th, which is home to a full espresso bar and 38 craft beers on tap. If cocktails are more your thing, Weather Up on East Cesar Chavez is a cozy house featuring 108 different classic cocktails. Pull up to the copper bar on the inside or relax on white garden chairs on the outside surrounded by greenery.

When it comes time to dine, we suggest Casa de Luz for their organic vegan and macrobiotic menu which changes daily, or Counter Culture, home to some of the best vegan comfort food you’ll find! For dessert, vegan ice cream from Sweet Ritual is our favorite. Order yourself one of their signature sundaes like the Glitterbeast featuring edible glitter sprinkles, or grab a vegan milkshake or ice cream sandwich!

Over the years, Austin’s South Congress shopping district has turned into one of Austin’s tourist hot spots, and it’s easy to see why! You can find almost anything you want on this street, from great vintage clothing at New Bohemia and Feathers Vintage Boutique to handmade items by Austin locals at Parts & Labor to astounding antique finds at Uncommon Objects.

We love our swimmin’ holes here in Austin, especially when the temperatures start to rise. Barton Springs Pool is one of our favorite places to cool off. This naturally spring fed pool stays 68 degrees year round - perfect for cooling off on a hot day!

The Boardwalk Trail on Lady Bird Lake, one of Austin’s newest exploration spots that has been 20 years in the making, was opened up this June. Walking along the boardwalk offers breathtaking views of the Austin skyline and Lady Bird Lake. It’s a great new place to explore if you want to get outdoors and take in some of Austin’s beauty. (Check out a map of the trail here.)

Since Austin is dubbed the “Live Music Capital of the World,” it only makes sense to take some of that scene in while you’re here! Some of our favorite spots include The Continental Club, White Horse, C. Boy’s, and the Elephant Room each featuring a variety of different local music stylings almost every night.

We hope our list will make your stay splendid - or convince you to visit!
